Sad News (1 Viewer)

Yes, it came on the pager at 13:01 today. Whatever you thought of the man he will be a sad loss to the birding world.

An very knowledgable man who was delighted in his birds and who always offered a helpful insight into their habits.

He and his innaccurate fingers will be missed.

I never knew Chris Mead, but I did purchase State of the Nation's Birds, and can therefore understand Alan's reply.

To lose someone with that Passion is very sad indeed.

Correction to the URL given in Ralphs post. It should be

www.bto.org

not .gov

Interestingly as I type this and look down at the previous posts, it shows the correct URL but it comes out wrong on the page which everyone reads but cannot edit...if you see what I mean - very odd.

I don't think his spelling was bad, it was just that he was so full of enthusiasm and passion for birds that his fingers couldn't keep up with his brain.

That is really sad.... I'll miss his eccentric spelling on ukrb, he was only posting a day or so ago.
He always seemed like a nice guy to me, and he had great views on stray cats.
Now he'll never be joining us on BF :-(
Andy

I have just posted an obit on Fatbirder with extracts from UKBN postings and a potted account of his contribution to ornithology. I only met him briefly but corresponded and he was always happy to answer even the most naive of questions as he realised that that is often a way to strengthen someone's spark of interest... he will be sorely missed.

(as posted elsewhere)

I never met Chris, though I always hoped to, but feel the loss as if I had. I sat, stunned, at my desk at work today, when I first heard the sad news, barely able to believe it.

Chris was as robust as I in his views, but had the rare quality of being able to exchange robust comments with out either taking or causing offence. His knowledge was only surpassed in quality by his willingness to share it with those less knowledgeable - and that's most of us.

I shall miss him, and his quriky tpying...
