My wife and I will be going on a non-birding organized tour there for 9 days (from Eastern Canada, where we live), with most of the time being taken on day or half day bus tours to the local beauty spots and places of interest. But I'm never "non- birding" , so I'm wondering where to find any birds in that situation - e.g. could I find Azores bullfinch by casually birding, and if so where? Or any particular spots where even common local birds might occur at that time of year? I have checked recent EBird checklists, but not much is currently being seen. I found a web site and blog on line for a local birding guide, but the last information was from 2017, so I don't know if he's still around. We will have a couple of half days and 1 full day to do our own thing, and could get a taxi or Uber somewhere, or rent a car. Any advice appreciated!

Local guide Gerby Michelson - spellings might not be right - is still there. he would be what you need.
Azores Bullfinch is just normally seen in one forest area.
I have only been there once, over 20 years ago, so don't ask me any detailed qustions. Go for Gerby.
