Top Tip When flying into Inverness and hiring a car from Europcar, assuming there are two of you, one get the baggage and the other collect the car straight away. This will save you a good half an hour on busy flights waiting at the desk. The staff are very friendly (no hidden costs unlike some!!), have great prices but struggle to cope with too many collecting at the same time. I think we paid approx. £15 p/day which is great value in my book. The car we were allocated was a new shape Skoda Fabia. I presume it was the 1.2T as it had surprisingly decent pick up. It also had a DSG box which was fantastic for crawling along looking for the birds. The stop start was also unobtrusive which helped in returning outstanding mpg - >60mpg according to my maths. It was also fun to drive so I'd definitely look for one of these again. The route taken was the same as previously. The A9 up to Loch Fleet; A839 to Lairg; A836 to Tongue; A838 to Laxford Bridge; A894 to Loch Assynt; A837 to Ledmore; A835 to Ullapool and practically all the way back to Inverness. The scenery is stunning the whole trip but starts to get dramatic when you turn off onto the A839.
