Scotland trip recommendations (1 Viewer)

I an planning on doing a birding trip to somewhere in Scotland for a couple of days in May.
Last year I went to the Cairngorms in February and saw golden eagles, grouse, crested tits etc.
I don't know where I would like to go this year, so any recommendations would be appreciated.

Indeed Shetland is awesome, but a long way for just a couple of days.

I wonder about the East Coast... Fife and the Isle of May would be great.

Isle of Mull

Another vote for Mull. We saw golden eagles, white tailed eagles, hen harriers, short eared owls, peregrine, cuckoo, a bunch of seabirds I can't remember off the top of my head, and although they don't have wings, the highlight was otter.

We missed corncrake.

For a trip for a couple of days then Outer Hebrides similar amount of effort to get to as Shetland from Nottingham.

Both great destinations, but for birding I think I'd still chose Shetland -- probably more chance of migrants -

The gannetry at Hermaness is quite an amazing sight, as are the puffins at Sumburgh Head. We stayed in a bunkhouse (Böd) at Voe, and the sounds of the curlew calling in the evening was wonderful.

Saying that Mingulay (south of Barra) was quite a memorable spot too - although camping alongside corncrakes makes sleeping somewhat difficult....I suspect the additional boat trip from Barra takes a trip to Mingulay firmly out of the "couple of days" category

If you’ve only got a couple of days why not consider North Berwick and a boat to Bass Rock....Gannets galore! also Terns, Puffins, Guillemots and Razorbills also Eiders and whatever else that might be present during the wonderful month of May. Probably a c3+ hour drive from Nottingham....and just think of that “reduced” carbon footprint drive not to mention the mileage. :t:
