Wow!! Wanna go! Have never seen that many birds, would rather like to!

Well FB, It's not a long haul from you, just check the tide tables and treat yourself to a little jaunt up to Snettisham. It is one of the UK's great wildlife spectacles and it's not 'weather affected', only for personal comfort, so the flocks are there to see every day, at high tide. A tip for any prospective visitor though, is to check the tides and pick a 'spring' tide as opposed to a 'neap' as the extra metre of water makes all the difference. The waders still fly and flock on a 'neap' it's just that they are further away. 3 hours before high tide is a good arrival time, this gives you plenty of time to park up, walk down, pick a comfy spot, and have a bit of fun picking out, and trying to ID, odd waders on the mud flats before the excitement begins.

B***er! I bet it was the one I had down as a Ruffe! :-O

btw, a couple of Gannets flew up the beach when I was there, they do look out of place soaring along the mud.
ps: the best bit I liked about the flocks was when they form that pointy bit and look like a giant leaf zooming through the air.

I 'might' get up to the north coast around Sheringham and Cley at some time over the winter, my brother is keen, but without a car Snettisham is not really practical - a quick search suggests at least 5 hours each way by bus and train! I could stay somewhere up there, but that could get rather expensive since I'm not working at the moment.

Will be getting lots of birds on Hanningfield Reservoir soon I should think so will get the bus down there to get a taste of big flocks - I've only been there once and saw many hundreds of Tufted Ducks, not quite 70000 waders but a lot for me. I'm not 'that' concerned about seeing big flocks, it will be nice to get that experience but I'm not 'MUST SEE THEM... NOOOWWW!!!!'. ;)

'kinda' seasonal as there are haws on the hawthorn, this is the Kestrel I got really close to on Galleywood Common when on a group photography walk on Sunday. The Bullrushes are going to seed now too.

I did post a Kestrel photo in the gallery but this one is a different pose.

Some very nice photos on here. Managed a few shots of this male Kingfisher yesterday. These are the better ones.

Hi Fozzy - Love your Kestrel, and the pose is unusual. Probabily looking down for food. I will have a look for your other Kestrel in the gallery. ;):t:

Hi Dave: Great shot of the Male Kingfisher. It is good if you get to know where to find particular birds in your patch. :t::t:

That Kestrel has a mean and hungry look about it! Nice pose.

It's so long since I've even seen a Kingfisher, let alone had the chance for a photo. Those are great shots, Dave.

Thanks all.

Dave, you jammy so-and-so! What a great close view - I usually just see them as a little blue blur... although at least I'm seeing them fairly often.
