Nice one, Simon! The darned Woodies have just about cleared ours this year, I tried to persuade them that the pyracantha next door held a better crop, but to no avail!

He'd better leave us some for Christmas!

There's a huge spreading holly along the old footpath near my house (where I photographed all the fungi...), yesterday lunchtime there were LOTS of blackbirds gorging themselves on the berries in it, brilliant sight to see.

Haven't got any pics yet but the big collection of mistletoes in the poplars near the river in town here are definitely getting into berry - couldn't see them that well until now because of all the leaves. There must be at least fifteen separate plants in the colony, some of which are pretty big! There's a huge one high in a great willow at the Chelmer Valley reserve - I've not seen many but it does seem a particularly splendid specimen!

Found some more fungi along the river walking into town this afternoon and just before that a Cormorant flew down and was fishing right near the Essex Record Office, right on the outskirts of the town centre. We do get Cormorants through the year but the winter influx has really got underway judging by the frequency with which I'm seeing them now. Unfortunately after getting blasted by the wind crossing the baddow meads flood meadow (it was unbelievably windy and cold walking there!) I wasn't 'quite' with it so the pics of the Cormorant didn't come out as I'd hoped, especially as it was a very active bird so many had blurring due to that.

Thanks Kits and Val... looks pretty ropey to me but I am rather critical of my shots - I know it could have been a lot better.

I've been waiting for the right time to take these pictures.....needed sunlight on the leaves to show them at their best. All came together this morning.

Hi Fozzy

Nice little report of all of the activity in your patch.

Your picture of the Cormorant is super - not too be too hard on yourself of course! :t:

Kathy
