Well I just found this thread and it was very helpful! I've just this minute bought my very first DSLR from one of the links Andy posted. Ive never used one before, so went for a 350D. It comes with a start up lens kit which won't be much good for bird pics but will help me get used to the body before forking out on a reasonably sized lens. Advertised as in boxed mint condition £283 inc. VAT and Delivery, which didn't seem too bad. (Yes I probably could have got one much cheaper but please DON'T tell me! ;)) Just to add re buying from reputable dealers: Being a complete numpty, it only occurred to me after purchasing the camera, that I'd need software etc etc. Contacted the dealer (with the intention of canceling my order and purchasing a new set up). Not only does the secondhand camera come boxed as new, but the dealer provides software, leads, instruction manual and has even thrown in a memory card for me. They also provide brand new straps with the camera. So no extra outlay and blinking good service - said he was at the shop until 9pm daily and contact anytime for help.
