Can anyone identify this for me. Also, is there an app that makes identifying easy?

Hello Ralf,

this is a male Yellowhammer. please note:
  • extensive yellowish plumage and essentially yellow head
  • bunting like seed-eater bill
  • quite long, notched tail
other similar yellow birds are Serin (smaller, stubbier bill, more flightly, but not shyer, different call), Greenfich (yes, its green!), Siskin (black cap, greenish back)

There are different apps, that help for bird-id. Among others the Collins-app: Collins Bird Guide – Apps bei Google Play

Edit: sorry: welcome to birdforum!
