One new species last night in the form of Bucculatrix nigricomella - tiny but distinctive pale eyes on the macro photo I took!
Overall, numbers last night were low again but a few nice second generation species were amongst the others.

I did not put the trap out last night, but I had a look at the wall in my garden this morning and on it was my first ever Large Ranunculus! A wonderfully intricate moth close-up.

Good mothing

That episode wasn't typical for a night's mothing for you three then? :-O
Incredible numbers and diversity - I loved the scene where his face and glasses were covered with half a dozen or more species alone.

Last night produced a garden first in the shape of Bulrush Wainscot sat on the wire fence of the chicken run and the first Vapourer for months.

sallow and red-green carpet NFY last night. Not absolutely sure about the carpet but I have put it down as grey pine.
(Sadly, not as many moths as in PNG - or perhaps, on second thoughts, it was just as well.)
Fourth hornet of the year...

Nice warm last night, and got a decent catch. Among them my second Large Ranunculus in a row, and my first Pink-barred Sallow (a beauty!).

Good mothing.

Had the trap out from 20.00 to 23.30 this night and not a single moth was there when I checked it. Not even a micro.

I didn't realise Angle Shades were migrants - somenights have several of these and other nights none? Wonder if they migrate back - anyone know?

I'd struggle to work out if any of the ones I get are migrants or not as they are a common resident but it might be easier to detect this at the coast.

i think i was desperate for a migrant so angle shades got the prize. but i think theres a fair chance that some here in weymouth would be migrants.

I get angle shades larvae in the garden so I guess most of mine are resident. You can only tell if they are migrants by circumstantial evidence, e.g. if they arrive at the same time as a vestal or some other obvious immigrant - unless they have been ringed of course ;)

3 species of Sallow here last night - Sallow, Orange Sallow and Barred Sallow.
Very nice - I've yet to find Sallows in my garden.

New for the garden from last night:

Blair's Mocha (I think!)
Lunar Underwing - nfy.
