Be careful what you wish for.

I've just returned from three weeks in Mallorca.

When I arrived they hadn't had any rain for several months. While I was there they had more than half of their annual rainfall in less than two weeks. It was so heavy it even stopped me mothing on several nights.

Very good for the island but not for me!

My first trapping for a week, and dispite cloudy skies for most of the night, I only got 12 moths! However, two of those were new for the garden, Sallow and.......Mallow!

Good mothing

Same here Sean, very few moths in the trap but it seems to be quality instead of quantity with a Cypress Carpet in my garden the other night. Anyone caught these recent colonists this year?

Hi, Bill,
I had my one and only cypress carpet this year - and I'm in the same county as you.
I'm having the same experience as others - clear skies, fullish moon, few moths. I had a dusky thorn on 29th which seems late?

Hi

There have been a few records of this species recently, mainly in Surrey/London borders.

Trapping at the London Wetland Centre (also in Surrey - but about as far north in the county as you can get) on 29th gave:

Shuttle-shaped Dart
Brindled Green
Copper Underwing
Large & Lesser Yellow Underwing
Large Wainscot
Willow Beauty
Sallow
Red-green Carpet
Mallow
Black Rustic
Pale Mottled Willow
Square-spot Rustic
Feathered Ranunculus

Clear skies and a full moon did not help at all here either. I had the lowest count (9 moths!) since April when I started. Red-green Carpet and Sallow were the best available.

Last night in Weston-super-Mare: 5 Blair's Shoulder Knot, 4 Feathered Ranunculus, Dark Marbled Carpet and Tachystola acroxantha. Getting quiet for me now but not giving up yet. Have had to switch to a black light which has been pretty good so far.

Still a lot more than I get! The last week or so I have got between 1 and 3 moths! Guess there are less moths in Sweden which sucks :(

Heart and Dart - 246
Brimstone Moth - 233

its interesting to see that I get far more Willow Beauties & Brimstones but less Quaker's and Large Yellow Underwings
