Hi all,
I photographed this serpent eagle at Borneo Highlands, west of Sarawak near the border of Kalimantan, Borneo. The altitude was somewhere around 800 m above sea level.
It seems to be very dark with no visible contrast between crown and cheek which is usually obvious in Crested Serpent Eagle. The black and white tail bands seem to be equally broad (the white band is only slightly narrower). The call was a relatively long and thin, one-note whistle. Mountain Serpent Eagle hasn't been recorded here before even though it is regularly seen in E Sarawak and Sabah, so I'm reluctant to say if this might actually be one. Has anyone observed MSE making a one-note whistle too? And which subspecies of CSE is most likely to occur in that area? Thanks!
