[QUOTE="James_Owen, post: 3266567, member: 53248"] Now it's very interesting you say that because I'm able to fill you in a wee bit on how scanning at NT properties work. Each time a member is scanned in that property gains something called a 'member visit credit', which is currently worth £3.65 to that property. This comes from central funds, and it is one of the main ways in which a property is able to carry out the work needed to look after it. The NT is perfectly happy for you all to know this, as it's a nice way to connect your membership to the work they do. However, if on the other hand, you choose to join the NT for Scotland, this 'visit credit' does not occur, all your money instead goes north of the border (although I'm sure they do a good job up there too). The point being, all those wonderful outdoor places the NT looks after, I'm particularly fond of Wicken Fen myself, do not benefit in the same way from your visit if you buy the Scottish membership instead. If you really want to support those places everytime you visit them, membership for the NT for England and Wales is the best way to do it. As for the RSPB, with fewer assets, that are relatively easier to look after, and that inevitably have more open access to them, I'd imagine they have alternative funding procedures, and scanning would be a trickier affair.
