Sig Sauer image stabized binoculars with HDX glass (1 Viewer)

I wanted more magnification than my 12x50 binoculars provide but without need to use a tripod. The new Sig Sauer Zulu6 HDX provide excellent image quality and not noticeable CA and the image stabilization works incredibly well. The are not small at 4.72 x 2.75 x 7.08 inches in height but they are very light at 21.9 ounces. They are lighter than my 8x42 and 10x43 binoculars and smaller than my 12x50 binos.

They focus down to 8.2 feet and I was observing bees on flowers at a distance of 10 feet with a stable image with the "normal" setting of the binoculars. There is also a "target mode" setting that provides even more image stabilization but I found it unnecessary under normal conditions.

For me these are a game changer in being able to hand hold a binocular that provides twice the image magnification of regular 8x binoculars. There is even less need to lug around a spotting scope and its tripod in the field.

Some more information . . .

The SIG Sauer Zulu6 HDX is available in 12x42, 16x42 and 20x42 (along with 10x30),

The x42 version:

Per the site, it uses '. . . HDX-Glass to enhance light transmission, resolution, and definition afield.'

The SIG is a version of a series of IS models manufactured by Kamakura (in x30, x42 and x50 configurations).
Besides SIG (USA), versions have also been marketed by Kite (Belgium), Bresser (Germany) and Opticron (UK).

They are available in 10x, 12x, 16x, and 20x versions. No point in providing image stabilization for less than 10x image magnification. My limit without the stabilization for hand held binoculars is 12x and my wife does not like to use our 10x binoculars.

Sig Sauer markets its optics to hunters in particular with its spotting scopes and rifle scopes and rangefinders and thermal and night vision optics. That is their niche market and adding 16x image stabilized ones fits nicely.

Thanks Montereyman. I have a shed load of 8x non-IS binos. None of them compare, in 'normal' Irish daylight, with my Canon IS 8x20 in terms of resolving detail. For my eyes, anyway.
