Sig Sauer Zulu9 MidwayUSA.Com Deals ? (1 Viewer)

Just curious ... who here has took advantage of the killer low prices now being offered at MidwayUSA for the Sig Sauer binoculars and why ?

Did ever the option occur that they were heavily overpriced so the dealer could give a huge discount on the bin when a customer bought a Sig fire arm.
Sig Sauer optics is just from the same OEM as Minox. The guns are excellent, the glass are chinbins. Nothing more and nothing less.

The sig Zulu 9 is made by Kamakura. Same chassi and performance as maven b2. Tried them both att the same time, identical. It was the 9x45. With a good deal they would be great bins.

I bought the 9x45 based on reviews of the Maven B2. They've become a favorite. I've got big hands (XL gloves) so the big size is just right for me. I wrap my left hand around the objective at the far end and clamp my hat's bill under my fingers. There is PLENTY of room for my fingers between the objectives. The view is impressive. I'd say near alpha. My only complaint is that the focus is faster than I would like. I'm getting used to it, though.

I was so impressed with the 9x45 at $711 that I bought the 11x45 at $610. I've only had the 11x45 for a couple of days. It works great with a monopod and a Stone Point binocular rest. I'm getting used to hand holding them too.

I would rate both of them as huge bargains at these prices.

The accessories are poor. I put Op/Tech Pro straps on both. The objective covers won't stay on so I put them back in the box. The 9x45 come with a nice case, but the 11x45 comes with a chest harness case that is rigid and too tight and only fits at all at certain IPDs. I'm carrying them in a camera bag.

I wouldn‘t be as negative as Jan regarding the performance of the Zulu (see https://binocular.ch/sig-sauer-zulu-9-9x45/), but I agree with him that SIG-Sauer binos were overpriced.

Hi Canip

There are some things I don't follow.
According to this site they are designed by Sig Sauer, but the Maven is identical. I find it hard to believe that Maven and Sig Sauer designed them together.
According to the same site they are made/assembled by "questionmark" Kamakura who has production facilities in China and Japan.
It's sold under a unlimited, fully transferable guarantee period.
OK, back upped by who?

Jan

The box for the Zulu 9's says "Designed by Sig Sauer in Oregon" and "Assembled in Japan". The binoculars have "Made in Japan" on them.

When they say "Designed by Sig Sauer" they may just mean the customization of Kamakura's design.

Well, Jan, don‘t forget that SIG Sauer is the largest firearms exporter of the US, and that their optics business is only a small side-business. So a guaranty by that company seems quite sensible to me.

Yes by letting the OEM to wrap their designed rubber armor around it.

Hi Jan , I do not question the fact the Sig Sauers Zulu9 line of binoculars or any other binocular selling for over $1,000 USA dollars are overly overpriced but I still see other web sites selling the Zulu9 - 9x and 11x who have stock selling for over $1,000 US dollars. So who gets to pocket most of that big dollar markup ? The retailer or its wholesale supplier ? I use the word Wholesale because I do not know if a dealer would have to buy Direct from Sig Sauer here in the states if that is where their shop is or outside the USA as In your case if you were to be a Authorized Dealer in your region of the world. Having said this, I am curious to know how much profit is left after such huge markdowns or is MidwayUsa selling these Zulu9 at cost passed on to Sig Sauer because of some contract agreement ?

Hi G,

Normal procedure for a retailer is to buy from the company/importer for a agreed price.
You can't get them for free and pay them after selling them.
What often happens is that the company/brand sells their stock with a huge discount to one party. That party takes his margin and sells them to the market often for a lower price the the dealer/retailer paid for it.
I see this almost daily on BF binocular bargains..........

Hey Mark, how’s that Brunton holding up with that Pentax eyepiece ? You said you recently got the Sig Sauer 11x45. How is the eye relief, is there enough for my thin glasses ? .... Gwen

The Brunton scope you sold me still works great! I haven't been using it much since I bought a Kowa TSN-883. I also bought a Doctor Optics Noblex 12.5mm eyepiece for it, which is pretty sweet. Over the holidays, the bargain hunter in me got the better of me and I bought the Nikon Monarch 82ED straight and 60ED angled when Nikon had them refurbished and 20% off. So, I've got too many scopes. I should take the Brunton out someday. I was completely satisfied with it until B&H ran the Kowa on sale. I decided that if I was ever going to own an Alpha scope, that was the time to buy one.

The eye relief on the Zulu 9's are fine for my glasses. Not a lot to spare though. I really am impressed with both the 9x45 and 11x45. I've been using them at sunset on the beach and they are giving me awesome views. Sunset on the beach makes most binoculars look good, of course. I need to do some comparisons with my Zeiss Conquest HD 10x56. I'd encourage you to buy a Zulu 9 before they sell out. You can always return them if you are disappointed.

Mark

I did a brief comparison of the Sig Sauer Zulu 9 9x45 and 11x45 against my Zeiss Conquest HD 10x56. I used a monopod and a Stoney Point Binocular Rest.

When trying to read small print on a distant sign, the three were about equal. The Conquest HD was the brightest and has the nicest focusing unit. Overall, I'd say they are in the same league.

The 11x45’s I purchased arrived yesterday. I spent a few minutes on the shoreline/east coast of Jacksonville scanning some huge freighters out at sea and small pleasure craft. These performed as pretty much to what everyone else has described, sharp and bright with enough eye relief with my glasses. I also found them very usable without my glasses. I saw no CA but my eyes are not susceptible to it. It took a few minutes to adjust to the little bit of shakiness at first. It’s been awhile since I have hand held a binocular with a power over 10x that weighed over 30 ounces. I would not want to hand hold these for long periods but for the short glances to better see/identify far off distant subjects they are great. My pair has a pretty fast focus, really not needed for the mostly stationary subjects that I will use these for. They definitely are substantial in size for a 45mm objective 11x power binocular. I wanted to show their size next to a comparable objective size binocular. Since all my binoculars now consists of 30-32mm objectives, I put the Sig Sauer 11x45 next to the Opticron DBA VHD + 8x42mm Monocular. You can see their differences in their barrel sizes with their rubber armor. The Opticron’s rubber armor is very compact. The picture gives you idea of how much smaller the Opticron DBA VHD 8x42 binocular would look compared to the Sig Sauer Zulu9 45mm binocular. For what I paid, under $600 shipped you get a lot of binocular. As far as the accessory case with the harness strap, nothing but junk. To cut costs I get it. If they had included a nicely made case of high quality like Swarovski does with their larger objective size binoculars we would be adding a few hundred dollars more.

Glad you are enjoying your purchase. I am too. I think I made out like a bandit. Although I also think that for $400 more, a Conquest HD would be right at the same level. Maybe someday I will get a Maven 9x45...
