Hi all,
I'm wondering if any Sigma 80-400 OS owners have had a similar problem or could shed some light on this?
Basically my OS system has died the death!
When I activate the switch to either position 1 or 2 on the lens barrel I get absolutely zilch - no sound at all to indicate that the system is working and no obvious visual clues in the viewfinder to show the system has kicked in.
I've tried all the obvious checks such as cleaning all the lens contacts, new batteries at full charge, hand held as well as on a monopod but all with the same result - nothing!
Perhaps the problem originated from when the lens suffered a direct hit on the OS switch with Gannet poo some 18 months ago but I cleaned off the worst of it immediately and held the lens in bright sunshine to dry off the more "liquid content" and it's still worked perfectly every time I've used it and has never given me any problems until yesterday. The lens gets a lot of use as it's my walkabout lens for birding and I probably shoot 80-90% of my bird photos with it - is it possible that the OS system has parts that have just worn out?
Am I having a senior moment and missing something obvious or is it going to hit me where it hurts most with a return to Sigma for what will probably be an expensive repair?
