Slovenia Birding Guides? (1 Viewer)

Hi all, I am currently planning a trip to Slovenia for October and wondered what the logistics of birding there is like; my understanding is that they have a lot of owls and woodpeckers I'd be interested in, but I don't know how easy it would be to get to the relevant sites from Slovenia. Does anyone know of any people/tour operators who would run guided bird trips out of Ljubljana? If not, does anyone know how accessible the relevant sites would be from there; would they require car hire or is the transport infrastructure decent?

My #1 target from that part of the world would be wallcreeper, but my understanding is that late Oct is probably still a bit too early for them to go to their wintering grounds in the karst region? Any advice would be appreciated!

Never birded in Slovenia but I rented a car a few years back from Ljubljana airport for a family holiday in Croatia. I have to say it was one of the better airport car rental experiences, and the roads were great too.

I did work there for a short while but unfortunately saw very little due to intense worktime, all I remember was lots of black redstarts, hooded crows and distant birds of prey and woodpeckers. I also thought it was a great country with really friendly and helpful people despite the language, good beer as well.

Sorry not much help,
Merlin
