Small pipit-like bird which has bemused me! (1 Viewer)

Seen in Dunning, Scotland: looked similar to a meadow pipit, but with a rusty red rump and mild yellow facial colouring, any ideas?

Got to be Yellowhammer with that rump.

Phil
You might be right there, although its proportions appeared more pipit-like, and the yellow much less intense and confined only to its face. I saw a yellowhammer five minutes later, and have seen many others before, and I'm 99% certain this wasn't one.

I've had a look at other images, and I think the yellowhammer suggestions are correct - must've just been the light! Thanks guys, just goes to show that even after years the commonest bird can still cause confusion.
