Small wader seen at Barnstaple, Devon, UK (1 Viewer)

Sorry previously posted this on wrong forum .. a friend spotted this yesterday (16th january 2016) alongside the River Taw. sorry for poor image, slightly larger than a turnstone was my impression. Any ideas on what it might be? I was also interested to see about a dozen Oystercatchers and a Whimbrel. All fairly close to the old town bridge at Barnstaple in Devon, UK.

Common Redshank :t:

As an aside, can't say for sure without a photo, but at this time of year, you're far more likely to have seen a Curlew than a Whimbrel (Whimbrels almost all migrate to Africa for the winter) :t:

The river by Barnstaple old bridge is pretty good. Worth keeping an eye out for Lapwing, Kingfisher and Mediterranean Gull on any upcoming visits too!
