This morning I did get our "common" coot, the American Coot, Fulica americana, for my 100th year bird.

I was really astonished at finding about 500 Ross's Geese mixed in with around 4500 Snow Geese on/around the lake at Lewis and Clark Lake, Buchanan County. I have never seen more than a handfull at one time before today! Everywhere I looked among the Snow Geese there were some Ross's.

A Trumpeter Swan and two Tundra Swans are still at Lake Contrary near Saint Joseph, Missouri.

Mr.VP!!!
A rough day in Norfolk ( which was nearly abandoned as we pulled onto the A141 and a snow storm hit us and didn't relent for over 2 hours !! ) . However , we persevered and the weather did clear up amazingly well .... but it was still freezing !!! And would you believe that in these near arctic conditions the two birds which failed to show all day were .... Arctic Redpoll & Snow Bunting !!??

Anyway , we did manage to see ...

141 - Golden Pheasant .
142 - Woodcock . ( x3 )
143 - Avocet .
144 - Mediterranean Gull . ( x3 )
145 - Ringed Plover .
146 - Brent Goose .
147 - Sanderling .
148 - Egyptian Goose .
149 - Shorelark . ( x18 )
150 - Lesser Yellowlegs .
151 - Black-winged Stilt .
152 - Snow Goose .

So , a pretty good day , bearing in mind the bloody weather !! Followed by a 5 1/2 hour drive home thanks to a major tail-back on the M6 !!
But it gives me a great start to March with 12 year ticks for the month ..... so far ! ;)

can anyone remember a while back when i said that i had seen a rough legged buzzard well i was looking on the bto website and found that someone else did see it go to this website http://blx1.bto.org/birdtrack/main/map_maker.jsp i saw it on the 11th and someone saw it the week after if anyone could give me any details about this sighting or anything else.

Not casting dispursions at all Timmy but just because a dot appears on the map does not mean that the record was genuine. Birdtrack is all automated and nobody reviews the records that are sent in. You will know that you can request that your records are forwarded to the county recorder, or not. It is the county recorder that you need to contact to see if the record has been properly submitted by another observer. I assume that you yourself have submitted a full description of the bird and the circumstances of your observation.

Mountain Chickadee
Hi guys,

My dad and I are headed west to Olympia today. We have targets like Redwing (it's been there for two or three months now), possibly Mountain Quail, Tricolored Blackbird, Tufted Duck, and many other birds that will happen to be year birds. I'll be back Sunday night and will let everyone know how it goes. I'll think I'll finally pass 100! There is a young birder that lives on the west side of the state who has seen almost 190 in Washington this year already! So there's plenty more for me once I get over there! ;)

Cheers,
Michael

sounds promising Timmy
I remember it from the time and i remember you posting a few notes on BF, (which makes a pleasant change).

great to see your very keen too....

nothing new for my non existant list today but a great wlak on the norfolk coast in absolutely horrendous snowstorms... ended up prostrate in the dunes for shelter at one point - it was vicious. Iceland Gull at east end of Thornham harbour though in very suitable conditions!!!

Headed to St Marks NWR this morning but to our disappointment the tower pool was completely full and no muddy margins or islands were exposed for shorebirds. Usually at high water there are a ton of shorebirds on this pool and as it was my first visit of the spring I was hoping to add a few year birds to my list. DOH! Anyway managed to add a flyby Black-bellied Plover as well as Royal Tern to my year list. Still a long way to reach 500 for the year but its gonna be fun getting there.

It's Spring already down there. Yeah, I guess so in Florida, not just warmer weather, but the birds migrating north.

Seems daft but I finally added Siskin today - they have been really scarce this year.

Makes 169 for Britain and 116 for Leics/Rutland.
