Should get a lot more tomorrow as I'm hitting the NE coast - fingers crossed for calm seawatching weather as I'd love a few grebes, divers and sea ducks! Forecast isn't calm tho.....but hey, the year is young LOL ;)

Oh, lucky you, having a Waxwing. There seem to have been so few about this year and I'm dying to see one (I've only seen them once before).

Good luck for tomorrow

93. Fox Sparrow
94. Eastern Towhee

For some reason I always lump these two together in my head anyways - that's weird that you saw 'em back to back!

This weekend was my first time out for birdwatching in the ABA area this year.
Numbers are pretty low (it is mid winter and that's my excuse) but have had a few good birds so far.
ABA year: 22
Best bird,
Snowy Owl

Saw my first lifer of the year today, a chipping sparrow. Also added white-winged dove and golden-crowned kinglet to my yearlist.

I'm going to Aransas NWR with my family on Thursday. I'm hoping to see some whooping cranes and maybe a few other lifers like black bellied whistling ducks and least grebes.

That is a nice list of birds, Fritz!

I had to look up the Checkered Woodpecker in my "Winkler, Christie and Nurney" Woodpecker Identification Guide to take a look at it. It is a "sharp looking", little woodpecker!

It was really a good day for birdwatching. I was able to see 3 owls during the day. The best for me was to see 50 Nacunda Nighthawks flying around in one place. Amazing birds! We ended the day with a list of 130 species and lots of mosquitos.

Embarassingly at only 49 as we approach the last week of Jan. Went in vain for Cackling Goose - got Black Duck x Mallard hybrid instead *shrug*, Catbird wasn't bad though for this time of year.

48. Gray Catbird
49. Common Grackle
