Mine's currently at 141. The better birds (in my fairly low opinion) being:

Spoonbill
Red Kite
Hen Harrier
Goshawk
Stone Curlew
Purple Sandpiper
Jack Snipe
Short Eared Owl
Woodlark
Tree Pipit
Waxwing
Redstart
Ring Ouzel
Firecrest
Willow Tit
Great Grey Shrike
Hawfinch
Crossbill
Snow Bunting
Corn Bunting

I hope to add Wood Warbler tomorrow, dispite my currently fairly crippled state.

Since the warbler migration is just about over, I headed west of here to catch up on some grassland and wetland birds. Not a bad day, with ten new birds for the year, including an Indiana state lifer (number 275). Now up to 583 on my Year List.

574. Willow Flycatcher
575. Dickcissel
576. Bell's Vireo
577. Grasshopper Sparrow
578. Black-necked Stilt
579. Dunlin
580. White-rumped Sandpiper
581. Baird's Sandpiper
582. Least Bittern
583. King Rail

The White-rumped Sandpiper was my Indiana state lifer, my tenth of the year, and fifth within the last two weeks.

In addition to the birds listed above, I added Great Egret and Black-bellied Plover to my ABA Area and Indiana year lists, both of which are now up to 193. (I had seen both species in West Africa last January).

Another weekend at the cabin yielded a family lifer (meaning that it was a lifer for me, my mother and father). It was raining pretty bad, so we decided to watch Happy Feet. In the middle of the movie, the rain slowed down, and I noticed chickadees flying about, so I got up and scanned the sky, bins in hand. Then I noticed a colorful flash, kind of orangish. Bins went up to my eyes, I can see the breeding male's flaming orange throat, which I knew instantly was a:

45: Blackburnian Warbler (lifer)

My parents also saw it, and loved how colorful it was. It was a sight to behold.

That was it for the weekend tho.

Yesterday at Squaw Creek National Wildlife Refuge, Mound City, Missouri, I found a couple of "new for the year" Missouri birds. They were among the several hundred shorebirds which were feeding in a mud flat area of the refuge.
228. Sanderling
229. Western Sandpiper
* I really had quite a selection of shorebirds. Some of the ones (other than those above) I observed were: Sempalmated Plover, Killdeer, Lesser Yellowlegs, Semipalmated Sandpiper, Least Sandpiper, White-rumped Sandpiper, Pectoral Sandpiper, Dunlin, Stilt Sandpiper and Wilson's Phalarope.

This evening just before dusk, I went to the local mall to look for nighthawks. They hawk for the insects which are attracted by the mall's parking lot flood lights. I found my target, so I'm now up to 584 for the year.

584. Common Nighthawk
