The weather here is now starting to get colder and very rainy, I haven’t been able to get out much for 2-3 days now, but the good point is that the last winter guests here haven’t been able to leave just yet, because of the bad weather, I was out today and I suppose it was my last shot to see the seasonal birds, have to wait until October when they return again.

Headed out to the grasslands today to try to catch up a few days,

Got a list of 54 species, pretty good for being PNG. The list also included a lifer which always is nice.

586. Eastern Greater Reed-warbler LIFER
587. Blue-collared Parrot
588. Dwarf Koel
589. Blue-faced parrotfinch (rare at such low altitudes)

Now up to 52 birds for the year. The Eastern Phoebes are flying around in my backyard. So far today, I've seen over 24 species of birds. Not all of those 24 birds were year birds or lifers, but the number is a milestone for me as it may well be the most birds I've seen in one day.

I was looking back on last year's list and on April 18th of last year I had 35 birds listed. on April 17th of this year, I have 49 birds listed. And I thought my year was off to a very slow start, when it actually wasn't.

So with that in mind, my year list goal this year is to see between 105 and 110 birds.

Again, currently, my 2006 year list is at 52.
