So, after all the wishing, what optical treats did you unwrap in your house this morning? 🎁

My dad got a Viking Cygnus 8x42

This year I decided to gift myself something from many Christmases' past since I like some of the older classics. Got a mint pair of 10x35 Nikon E (C) Criterion porros. Always regretted selling these and the Eii's I had 10 yrs ago, so decided to re up.
Also, a mint pair of Celestron Regal LS 10x25's just for the curiosity factor as the larger Regal binos and scopes from years ago were pretty good, and I just enjoy comparing a wide variety of binos, and never had any of the 25mm Regals.

My brother mailed me cookies, a mini wall calendar and a decorative hot plate.
My neighbor and friend gave me a little bird ornament which I put outside in the tiny garden with the other outdoor ornaments. A few Christmas cards and that was it.

Leica 8x42 Noctivid in green from another birdforum member. I won’t get it till next week but I am excited. I traded my 8x40 SFL plus cash so I really hope I like it.

I got myself a bushnell broadfield 6x25 11° reverse porro (made by Asahi/pentax) which I adore and hopefully have a canon 8x20 IS arriving from another forum member from across the pond soon!

The 710 took pity on my wet feet (while geocaching in the Wienerwald recently) and gave me a wonderful new pair of Lowa Renegade hiking boots to replace my 10-year old ones where the sole was coming off. I love her to bits.

lilcrazy2,
It's just a reflection in the lenses. It can be seen that there are three reflections in lenses of different sizes of the same rectangular light source. But it's an interesting and funny idea of binoculars with a rectangular fieldstop:D

A leucistic Red-vented Bulbul. Very good looking fella.

Happy 2023 everyone.

NL Pure 10x42, and today I sent them back.

They do a lot of things well, but overall they fail. I really dislike looking through them. They make everything look like a 2D paper flat cut out. Look at a bird, it looks paper flat. That deer over there, sadly another paper cut out. Looking at scene in the woods and its just stacked series paper cut outs. Nothing has depth or dimension.

They get the edges right at the expense of killing the life of the primary view. It doesn’t make sense. I'm honestly shocked they are as popular as they are.

EDIT: I may break this off into a new thread. I’d like to discuss it more.
