Some birds from Malaysian Borneo (1 Viewer)

We went to Malaysian Borneo in the first week of May last year. We went to Sukau and the Danum Valley. The main purpose of the trip was primates, but we also saw quite a few birds.

More than that, it was a great season in terms of weather (it rained a few times, but never when it was a problem), the guides and other Malaysian people we met were super (including people just walking around Kota Kinabalu at the beginning and end of the trip), and the foreign tourists in our groups (it wasn't a private tour, but the group changed from day to day because people had booked different itinerararies and lengths) were pleasant and relaxed (and less 'where are the lions? where are the leopard? OK now we want to see rhinos! type of people you often meet in Africa). So recommended!

Anyway, there a number of birds left over after a few weeks with the books. I'm sure some of them are common for those who know this area, so apologied.

These birds will be spread out over a few posts, but they are few enough to keep them all in this one thread. I have other photos of some of them, but nothing equal to or better than what I am posting here.

This post:

1: I think this is a Greater Green Leafbird (Sepilok)
2 & 3: A bulbul (I think) at Sepilok
4 & 5: This looks like a Woodswallow to me, but the Woodswallows in Malaysia are given as grey in the books

Second Set

I can't decide about 1 and 2: Brahminy Kite or Sea/Fish Eagle
I think 3 is Grey-headed Fish Eagle
I think 4 is Little Green Pigeon f
I think 5 is another pigeon, maybe unidentifiable

1-3: White-winged Black Tern (three different birds at Sukau)?

4: And I thought this bird with a yellow eye would be some kind of myna, but it has no white wing patches?

5: And is this from Danum Valley some kind of Drongo?

1 and 2 Same Bird (Danum Valley)
3 and 4 Same Bird (Sukau)
5 This seemed like a fairly large bird over the river in Danum Valley in the dusk

We saw House Swifts and others, but the colouring on these seemed different. Photo 5 is what I take to be a House Swift. These are from Kota Kinabalu.

1. Is this a Yellow-rumped Flowerpecker female
2. I have just this one awful photo of this bird, but I'd love to know what the bird was before I throw the photo away.

That's all, though I don't promise not to check later on some birds I think I am sure of now.

And I posted some questions in the mammals (squirrels and bats), butterflies, insects and reptiles forums here, so if anyone is good at these things, please look there, too.

Thanks everyone who got this far!

I've only got time to look at the 1st set now but will come back to the other sets later.

1 - agree on f GGL - yellow throat and eye-ring
2-3 - most probably Red-eyed Bulbul, as the underparts look dusky rather than creamy
4-5 - White-breasted Woodswallow

The birds at the airport are juvenile Asian Glossy Starlings.

2nd set:

1-2 - are they the same bird? #1 looks like more Brahminy Kite but #2 is definitely a White-bellied Sea Eagle (white trousers)
3 - I think you're probably right with Grey-headed - bill is heavy and two-toned
4 - agree on Little Green
5 - agree on Pink-necked

3rd set:

1-3 - agree with KGS on Whiskered
4 - looks like a raptor, not a myna - surely that's a Bat Hawk with that huge bright yellow eye?
5 - not a Drongo - blood-red eye and bill and tail shape suggest Asian Glossy Starling

4th set:

1-2 - Puff-backed Bulbul? - not sure though
3 - dark eye and fine head streaks plus yellowish wash on breast suggest Ochraeous Bulbul or similar - probably Grey-cheeked on location as Ochraceous occurs in mountainous areas
4-5 - Erpornis? surely not a bulbul if it hangs upside down

Agree with Bat Hawk, perhaps worth considering female Fairy Bluebird for 5

5th set:

1-2 - the closest I can get is Spectacled Bulbul, but it looks strangely warm-coloured
3-4 - Buff-vented Bulbul (silvery eye)
5 - juvenile Asian Glossy Starling

6th set:

1-2 - it's one of the larger bulbuls, seems to have a crest, maybe Puff-throated?

3-4 - hard to say which colours are genuine - the 1st image reminds me of a Ruby-cheeked Sunbird

5 - either Grey-headed or Lesser Fish Eagle

Apart from the House Swift in the 5th image, the other birds look like either Edible-nest or Black-nest Swiftlets, virtually impossible to tell apart.

I would suggest your flowerpecker is more likely to be a female Yellow-breasted (heavy bill, red iris).

The last bird can only be a minivet - maybe Scarlet? It's a very odd angle but the bird has bright red underparts and rump.
