some raptors in Iran - April 2021 (1 Viewer)

Well-known member
Hello all,

Few days ago, I went to a park in Karaj, Alborz Province (35.83326002092324, 50.98457835397783) and I saw a Shikra which came to a specific tree more than 5 times and I guess it was nesting. besides that, in some point I saw three raptors in the sky which seem to me look alike and I took some photos, unfortunately with very poor quality and not sure each photo belongs to which individual (photos 1 to 5). My first guess was 3 Shikras, although at least one of them (5th photo) has only 4 fingers (why?) and now I think of Sparrowhawks.

Also, I took a photo of a falcon and presumed it was a Kestrel, but colors are so dark, maybe because of the light (photos 6 & 7).

I appreciate your opinions about them.
Thank you

Hi Mitra,

pic 1 shows two Levant Sparrowhawks, possibly male and female (right one surely is male).
pics 2-5 are all Shikras, i think, on shape of wings and 5 fingers.
pics 6-7 female Common Kestrels.
