[QUOTE="Reader, post: 1534846, member: 234"] David's been on the phone and having read all of your brilliant info it has presented us with some logistical problems. i.e how much time do we spend at different areas. I think we have agreed that we will not do Kimberley or the Taita Falcon site but that we will do Garingboom instead so this is what we are left with on where we would like to go (area wise). Cape Town area. Garingboom Sani Pass Durban and northwards. Kruger After there David has suggested that on Nov 27th we will have one night as we drive from Kruger through the Draks and the last night (28th) before we fly out at a friends house in Pretoria. What we are looking for quickly (so it gives us dates on where we will be booking accommodation) is what you experienced guys would do to use these days we have wisely in each area and how many nights you would stay in each area. We obviously have to spend a lot of time driving between areas so what would you say is logistically possible for us to achieve timewise in each area. How many nights and days in each area would you suggest One problem is David thinks it might be hard to get a mid-week Pelagic. Is that right, or do any of you have any contact details of anyone that does do mid-week Pelagics at the Cape? How many nights would you spend at Cape Town, Garingboom, Sani Pass, Durban Northwards and do you agree with what is suggested at Kruger. At Sani would you spend a night at the top or forego it and stay at the bottom? For Kruger David has suggested 2 nights at Berg-en-Dal, 2 nights at Lower Sabi & 1 night at Satara. Does that sound a good itinerary for Kruger. If it does then the gaps need filling in for the dates below. We arrive at Cape Town airport at 09:35 on Nov 9th so we will have chance to do some birding that day but after taking 24 hours to get there we could be a bit tired so I'm not sure how much time we can invest on that date. Here are the dates that need filling in (bearing in mind the driving times between the long drives). How many nights in each area would you put against these dates? Nov 9th 10th 11th 12th 13th 14th 15th 15th 16th 17th 18th 19th 20th 21st 22nd. Kruger. Possible Berg-en-dal 23rd. Kruger. Possible Berg-en-dal 24th. Kruger. Possible Lower Sabi 25th. Kruger. Possible Lower Sabi 26th. Kruger. Possible Satara 27th. One night dring through the Draks. 28th. Night in Pretoria at a friends house. 29th Flying from Joberg. Departing at 14.20. So if the itinerary is relatively set from the 22nd onwards that leaves from the 9th to the 21st to organise (if you agree that David's suggestion for Kruger is ok). If you think there is a better suggestion for Kruger then please say so. David certainly won't be offended as he knows that when it comes to covering Kruger within this time frame (or would you add another day or not) then you guys will have the best knowledge to hand. How many days and nights at Cape Town (including a Pelagic if possible mid-week). How many nights and days at Garingboom. How many nights at Sani Pass. How many nights from Durban northwards (and suggestions where to stay). I know this is a big ask but you guys have come up trumps with good info already in this thread. The problem is that you all recommend booking accommodation quickly so we have to firm up on an itinerary that is do-able. That in turn means we have to book accommodation on certain dates so that is why I am asking for suggestions that we can use and adopt as an itinerary. I look forward to your suggestions. BTW David has a friend who is a good guide for the Cape Town area so where else do we need a guide. Sani Pass certainly. Do we use Corinna's suggestion of Stuart Mc Lean or one of those Sal has mentioned or anyone else for this area.. Garingboom looks covered as I think the guide comes with the accommodation if we manage to book the B&B run by Jan & Riette Griesel . After Sani Pass will we need any guides at all or just ourselves (I know we won't need them in Kruger as you have suggested). Well that's it. What do you guys think. Can you fill in the gaps or make other suggestions. Edit. Don't forget that David will be driving his own 4x4 together with a trailer full of all the camping equipment we will need so camp sites will hopefully be used in many places if possible.
