Hi, these photos were taken on Nov 25 at about 3pm in a field near to the Hat Yai airport. At first I thought it was a brown shrike but now that I have relooked at the photos the bill still says shrike to me but I am puzzled by the apparant eye ring and lack of an "eye stripe" or any contrast in colours on the side of the face. Any suggestions welcome:)
thank you in advance
steve

It's definitely a shrike and I think you're right with Brown Shrike, even though not all the features are visible. I think the confusion is caused because there is a branch blacking the view of the dark ear covert 'mask', which is normally the most obvious feature of the head.

I agree with John, that this looks good for Brown Shrike - part of the mask can be seen as a darker area behind the eye.
