Sparrowhawk running amok (1 Viewer)

Hmm--I seem to be in full-throated curmudgeon mode this morning. Probably time to go downstairs for some breakfast. ;)

When I'm grumpy and do that, I tend to hurt myself - but then, I live in a bungalow that doesn't have a cellar!

Hi Rex

Im afraid no one has the right to go through life un-offended, What happened to the thick skin?

By the way I am also a fellow sufferer (although I dont feel I have ever suffered from having our unique picture based brainfunction)

Glad to see the dyslexia sideshow finally appears to be petering out. Now we can all resume wrangling about the problem of evil (i.e. predation) at backyard feeders. Or better yet, give the subject a rest for a while. It’ll be back, that’s for sure.

Sorry Fugl.:-C

It is the first, and last time I will comment on this subject here.:t:

Is feeding the Sparrowhawk not an option or would this have too much of an effect on its hunting prowess ?

We tried feeding red kites from the roof of our garage ( dead day old chicks sold as python food).

The only raptor that got anywear near to them, was a sprawk which still regularly took naieve fledglings of various species, and ignored the dead stuff completely.

I simply can't see the problem by the way, Just rejoice and enjoy the spectacle, It won't last for ever because Sprawk attacks in the garden are a bit like number seven buses.

Hi all
Val as just seen a Sparrow Hawk take a goldfinch:flyaway::-C:-C..Yes it upset her,but she as accepted that because we feed garden birds to make life better for them we also have made it easier for the hawk ;) that also needs to feed.
And so life goes on.
Regards
Rex.

Smart hawks

Interesting thread I have the same problem although i don't see it as a problem. I have witnessed hundreds of times spawks hunting by flying in fast towards the feeders and table. But this male has another answer he only does it at first light but sits motionless 2 feet away from the table in the shadows as the birds drop in for a free feed he hits. My feeders are around dense cover so perhaps in the open he wouldn't be able attack like this but would use normal hunting techniques ( catch 22 ) Personally i love the little fella:t:
