Hello John,
first and most important: welcome to birdforum!
second: your bird is a Red-legged Partridge. Simply said, its a bird with (nearly) unique colouration.

Yes, there are some similar species, and maybe a Red-legged partridge x Chukar hybrid must be ruled out. There is another thread here, where I got help from Nutcracker and Jörn. Thanks again!
