I just had a look at the Springwatch messageboards and noticed the inevitable long thread about the 'cruel and heartless' attitude of the programme makers in allowing the young Dipper to die without intervening to help. I thought that would produce a few comments from the 'fluffy nature' brigade. For my part, I can understand the policy but it seems odd that they did intervene in the end anyway, albeit too late to help.

I am still enjoying the programme but personally I think it is bordering on becoming too slick and informative and not as involving as the organised chaos of the previous series. I know other people will think the exact opposite. I can see that Chris is professional and knowledgeable but I still find him a bit smarmy and smug. Sorry, just my opinion.

I think the quality of the footage from the nest sites is vastly improved over previous series and the photography, in general, is superb.

Yeah, I did find how Simon King talked about their policy of non-interference as the baby dipper was floundering...and then someone went and got it anyway, albeit too late.

Tricky decision that. I probably would have got it just because it was so heart-wrenching, but nature is about two things: sex and death. Trying to mess about with that to bring about some strange artificial happy version of nature never works well.

If anyone misses a show you can easily catch up on them with BBC iplayer. Quality of the feed is obviously not as good as proper telly though.

The policy of non-inteference is widely utilised by film-makers and conseravtionists everywhere. Sometimes you just have to let nature run it's course. Carrion from dead animals is a very important food source for many species, even in this country. Like Chris said, it's the Carbon cycle.
Does everyone remember Mufasa's speech in The Lion King! :-O

"You just haven't earned it yet baby", "Vicar in a tutu", "Bigmouth strikes again", "The Queen is dead". Has there been anymore?

If he gets "Girlfriend in a coma" in I'll be impressed.

Also, the odd Clash title thrown in as well - "Should I stay or should I go?"

I find Chris more entertaining than Bloddy, though I do value your opinion we can't all be the same or we'd have a dull world.
He doesn't seem to mind having the mickey taken out of him and is quite humorous. I was unsure when I first saw he was going to be a main prestenter but its now a thumbs up from me :t:

'Frankly Mr Shankly' got a mention last week as did 'Hand in Glove' and 'Handsome Devil'.

'Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others' must have potential?

Well tonight we had Oscillate Wildly, This Charming Man and Last Night I Dreampt Somebody Loved Me.

I only spotted this for the first time tonight, having not really followed the series. It was Oscillate Wildly that made me sit up. Has he been doing it from the outset? Is it a bet?

Graham, I don't know if Kate's aware - sometimes she looks like a girl afraid.

And it's informative too. It's really become unmissable TV. If there's only one small complaint, they sometimes restrain Packham when he starts getting a bit "scientific" - let him get on with this, as some of what he talks about is fascinating.

Hi there

I have to say I am finding the shows, entertaining and it is balanced, and well presented without being too mad or to boring.

I like the way Chris adds a little bit of humour here and there on the programme withour being too full on in your face 'just to take your attention of the subject in hand humour'.

Chris is good as explaining himself so I do not have a problem with that at all. He does get a little over zealous about waht he is saying on occasions and that is the point that Kate never gets a word in edgeways.

Yes, Chris gets a little too scientific at times, and needs to keep it more simplistic especially for the younger audience who will be watching too. :-O

Good all round family show. :t:

That is my take on the show iself without adding any of the wildlife mentioned.
