"Please please please let me get what I want" tonight.

It's a game I play in the classroom quite a bit, more with lyrics than song titles - kids don't stand a chance as it's nearly all eighties.

Chris really surpassed himself tonight with at least eight more Smiths songs - 'Asleep', 'Unloveable', 'Please please please let me get what I want', 'Nowhere Fast', 'Cemetry Gates', 'I Know its over', 'Well I Wonder' and the very obvious 'Sheila take a bow'!

Its a real shame its the last show tomorrow as apart from the excellent wildlife, its so fun trying to spot them all! Double figures tomorrow?

So what's the betting for tomorrow? 'There is a Light That Never Goes Out'? A slightly risky 'Some Girls are Bigger Than Others' or an even more risky 'Meat is Murder'?

Well I wonder. ;)

Did anyone else enjoy the thermal images of the Manx Shearwaters? Sure we've all seen thermal imaging used on TV before, but it looked beautiful, in a freaky way! The shot when they panned up to look at the sky was brilliant. I'd loved to have been where he was and have them flying and scrambling all around.

Agree with everything already said about Chris Packham...he makes a thoroughly entertaining and interesting show.

Let's hope we see more of him in the future.
.
I love the underlining Smiths' thread to the conversations...not easy to achieve...and very entertaining...would definitely appeal to the younger viewers as these phrases are so effortlessly tossed into the talk, which is, incidentally, more interesting than in previous years!!

How would an Oddie/Packham combination be in the future, I wonder?
They would both probably have fun whilst imparting a lot of knowledge to the viewer.

Jesus and Mary Chain. Cult band of the '80's. Suspect some of the "blue tit watchers" attracted to this type of show won't have a clue and thought he was being blasphemous.

Christ on a bike, they'll be in for a shock if he comes on wearing a Queen Is Dead t-shirt tomorrow.

At a guess the ones that would be easiest to throw in (if they haven't been used already) would include 'Panic', 'Ask', 'London', 'Handsome Devil', 'These things take time', 'Is it really so strange?', 'That joke isn't funny anymore', 'What she said' and 'Stretch out and wait'.

Handsome Devil came out in the first week.

You know, if it wasn't for this I'd probably have switched off by now :)

I imagine many of the younger viewers have never even heard of The Smiths, a band which broke up 22 years ago and which appeals to their parents' generation. It's not exactly cutting edge culture but it makes an interesting diversion for 'thirty and forty somethings'. There was a video of an interview with Kate Humble on the Springwatch site where she talks about Chris Packham's collection of T-shirts which he has brought with him, all perfectly spaced out on cedar hangers. I can believe it. They are all very clean and neatly pressed. Not at all Oddie-like.
