Sun Bear, Kaeng Krachan (1 Viewer)

Just in case anybody is up for an Ursine twitch, a friend just back from Kaeng Krachan in Thailand reports that a Sun Bear is visiting the food dump behind the kitchen at Ban Krang camp site during the day time.

Thanks! Unfortunately, I'm not in SE Asia at the moment, but it's always great to hear about things like this. I prefer not to see animals at feeders/food dumps, but if I were on the same continent I'd definitely be feeling a little twitch-y.

I posted this information at the mammalwatching blog: www.mammalwatching.wordpress.com

Thanks Ben. I agree that it's more enjoyable to see wildlife in a more natural way, but the kitchen food dump at KK is a great place to see small mammals at night. It's also worth mentioning that Sun Bear has become much more frequently seen in the park of late. I had a great sighting while walking along the road last year (perhaps too close for comfort), and know of quite a few other sightings.

Yes, you certainly won't hear me complaining about my observations and photos of small mammals at the food dump (three species of civet and two of porcupine) www.tremarctos.com/category/thailand/central-thailand/

It looks like another trip to Kaeng Krachan is in my future. Sun Bear is difficult to get anywhere, though I'll try at Danum Valley. Plus there are plenty of other good mammals and birds at KK.
