104 Red-breasted Merganser (Mergus serrator)
105 Goosander (Mergus merganser merganser)

A text from Dave Harris from Island Barn " Stay there its coming your way" and sure enough a male Merganser and a Female Goosander appeared on the causeway to Knight and Bessborough. A 1st winter Glaucous Gull was present on QE2 with the gull roost.
The pic is poor but the light was not good for digiscoping...

Cetti's was calling then seen near the far end of the cafe at the entrance to the wetland area. I spent the rest of the morning / early pm in the Peacock hide. Curlew flew over the reserve towards the thames found by Rupert Kaye. Remainder were seen on the main lake.

An evenings birding produced another yeartick a Male was seen and another was heard. No new Holmethorpe ticks though.

My first find at Holmethorpe in the form of a pair of Garganey on Spynes Mere they flew soon after phone calls were made but luckily landed on Mercers West phew!. A mini twitch followed with Graham, Gordon and John Allan joining me on Mercers West to enjoy good views of the birds. Holmethorpe life list stands at 092 with Sand Martin the other addition.

News hot off the press my Hooded Crow was not accepted by the records committee ( A Hybrid was seen in Peckham around the time of my sighting). Therefore Surrey VC total remains 192.

Having slightly recovered from my 36hr journey from birding in Colombia to home I thought it was time to visit the Farm in an attempt to catch up on migration. 3 Buzzards and 2 Shelduck were the other notable sightings in the three hour visit.

A first for the Farm on Bird race day seen by Pete Alfrey from the Obs window a few frantic moments later the news reached the hide and bingo the bird was seen flying towards Croydon. Pictures can be found on the links from Beddington Farmlands website. I logged 69 out of 72 species seen on the day a site record for me.
