Switzerland 2024 (2 Viewers)

Well done Frank....did you see Great Bittern? I see that 4 were reported there today!

No, unfortunately not. I checked a couple of the spots where they can often be seen, but didn't find any. I also checked for the Whinchat that was reportedly around the last week, but didn't find it either. There were a bunch of Fieldfares though, always fun birds to watch.

At the Katzensee this morning.

I quickly went by bike once I saw some simming of sun through the clouds. Before I was halfway there it was snowing a bit. Regardless, I saw some Snipe, Goldfinches, Green Woodpecker and this individual. Both Snipe and Bittern found by someone using a thermal-imager. I just talked to Santa Claus, but she told me I could forget it.....

BTW Not sure if I ever had such cold hands in my life!

I followed Frank's brave call to search for Bitterns however at Greifensee..it was cold!
Recently Horned Grebe, Goshawk and Goldeneye reported.
Of course I dipped on all of them. The Bittern was seen briefly but no photos this time.
Some 35 species seen including Kingfisher, Long tailed tits, Siskins, Grey Wagtail.
Now the sun comes out!

Wtf..I met 2 local birders with scopes as well..sigh

I met some too.

We startyed around 11:00 at the Silberweide parking, there were a whole bunch of Storks in on of the fields there. First we went to the nearby observation tower, where a great total of nothing was really visible. Then we walked along the canal to the lake. There were some Goosander, but taking pictures was not easy!

We then walked along the lake to Uster, until we reached the viewing platform which is on the other side of Uster. We actually had wanted to alk to the viewing playtform near the Greifensee village, but only had paid parking for two hours :ROFLMAO: So, we returned after about two and a half hours, when the sun had come out.

-----

Unfortunately, had some stuff to do for work which had to be finished by 17:00 Sunday afternoon, so didn;thave tuime to go to the Katzensee for the Slender-billed Gull (-- but was maybe a flyover only anyway?)

Observer’s comments on his observation: Comment: Flew at 10:40 a.m. from the east over the Upper Chatzensee. Calls several times and disappears behind the forest in the direction of Regensdorf. Very short observation. Comments welcome

Ah. I see now on Ornitho.ch indeed. Well, in that case, neither shame nor regret :ROFLMAO:

Paul Walser Schwyzer was the observer, he spends an impressive amount of time in the field. Kudos to him for spotting this one!
