Camera is back with Canon being repaired.Don't quite understand how it broke. Looking at mine I'm not sure where it's glued. Can you take a photo of the dead camera and attach?
Thanks to all your recommandations & experience, I've bought the SX40 as well and must say I'm pleased with the results it gives me. I used it mostly for bird ID shots and it is just perfect for such. Haven't had the opportunity to use it in good lightning but even so, it delivers! In flight or close-up, it has become a trusted allied for me.

Spent a bit of time trying to get record shots of the pale Redpolls that turn up at my feeders at this time of the year but have found it quite hard work - this is the best of the bunch.
The Harlequin I saw on a river in Reykjavík today, the first I've seen on fresh water this year - much easier to get close to than when they are on the sea.
