Thanks everyone! This morning, I woke up early again an went for a walk before work. Down near the Fish Market, I managed to get my first look at an Australian Pelican, which was resting on a boom. A bit further round, by the Anzac Bridge, was a Willie Wagtail, showing the odd, sideways-sweeping tail. It's not actually a wagtail, but a fantail flycatcher (which also aren't flycatchers in the European sense). A cormorant of some type flew past and settled with some others, which on closer inspection were Little Black Cormorants, which really are quite little - with bodies barely larger than the Silver Gulls (which in turn are about Black-headed Gull sized). Walking back through Wentworth Park, there were a pair of Masked Lapwings an also Tree Martins, which were landing and gathering up soil, by the look of things. I'd also seen a Welcome Swallow picking up mud near the Fish Market. It'll be interesting to see what I can see this weekend. As it's winter here, it's dark when I leave work, so it'll be nice to get some birding done outside of pre-breakfast walks.
