Hi, I"m sure a lot of you already know about Khadija, after reading my other post (Tips for looking after baby birdie). Things have changed and she will not be staying with us after all. She is now a juvy and is getting the hang of how to feed herself but this is one of my major problems. I am currently feeding her mealworms, but I live in Malaysia and mealworms are not her actual diet. They are meant to eat grasshoppers, termites and cicadas. These are hard to find and I made a mistake by feeding her on an all mealworm diet, giving fruits once a month since she started mealworms. However, a palm tree berry that orioles eat from is in my garden and the berries just turned ripe. I fed them to Khadija and she thought it was ok. how am I going to teach her to peck and open fruits, such as figs, mangoes, and bananas?
Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
by the way, I have to release her soon because she is flying around the house and pooping everywhere. It's really unhygienic and I don't want to get sick.
