Hello all,

Next summer (June 19-July 6) I will be heading to Thailand. Although it won't be a birding trip, I should have some time while there to look for birds. Most of the trip will be spent near Chiang Mai (northern Thailand) as well as few days in Bangkok. What birds would be expected around this time of year there? Thanks for any help!

Hi rwblackbird57

I am not familiar with the area around Chaing Mai as I live in central Thailand and do most of my bird watching in national parks around that area but I will give you some sites that should be of help to you.

http://www.norththailandbirding.com/

http://www.thaibirding.com/

Please note that although these are commercial sites I do not know the owners and have never used their services as I organize all my own trips. I only give you these as they may help you and not to advertise the sites.

This site is a Thai Govt PDF that gives information on all the national parks in Thailand:

http://www.dnp.go.th/parkreserve/e-book/book/np_th_en.pdf

In BKK the parks, Jutajak and Lumpene are always good places to see birds particularly in the early morning.

If you think I can be of help to you give me a PM.

Hi RW,

There are many reports on the Vacational Trip Reports thread - Doi Inthanon is easily reached from Chang Mai.

You will be visiting in wet season, which a good time to visit kaeng krachan national park, or khao Yai to look for pittas and broadbills.

Doi inthanon is an easy trip from Chiang Mai, as half two mentions, but likely to have at least some rain.

For all sites mentioned you should bring a rain poncho, umbrella and leech socks
