I think I may have discovered a good way to use a monocular. First hold the monocular up to your eye as normal. Now close that eye and use your other eye that doesn't have the view ruined by a stupid useless monocular8-P These things that I have bought are rubbish and the Optima 6x16 seems to be awol since it should have arrived already but that was bound to happen as it's the one I really wanted to see. Maybe if the 4x12 was a 4x16 or more and had some eyerelief it would be better but the magnification is really very low for any distance use. It seems like something made for use just sitting looking at things on a table which of course you can see already but you can magnify close things quite a lot. I did fix the loose Helios prism easily enough but I'm assuming this must be a poor cousin to the Doctor. It seems sort of like a gimmicky novelty thing and I don't even think that in the pouch it's that much smaller than my 8x20 folded in it's pouch and the difference in view between them just isn't in any way comparable. Pretty awkward to hold and focus and get your eye lined up with the very small target eye lens plus mine does not fold lock at 90degrees (it's a bit over) so I have to level the view also by holding the fold at the right angle. I might battle through the floods and rain tomorrow to see how bad they really are outdoors. I want to try out the Hawke 10x25 bin in any case and that should be good.
