Hey guys, I was doing some research and learning a few things about Galapagos Island for a project (actually a giveaway that we are doing) and found out the Galapagos Island tortoise are the largest living tortoise in the world. Thought it was pretty neat and wanted to share.

From wikipedia

The Galápagos tortoise or Galápagos giant tortoise (Geochelone nigra) is the largest living tortoise, native to seven islands of the Galápagos archipelago. Fully grown adults can weigh over 300 kilograms (661 lb) and measure 1.2 meters (4 ft) long. They are long-lived, with a life expectancy in the wild estimated to be 100–150 years.

Fully grown tortoise can weigh upto 300 KGs! That is one big tortoise! Here is the link to the piece on Wikipedia if you want to learn more about it Galápagos tortoise - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galápagos_tortoise . By the way, if anyone is interested in the contest we are doing that allows you to win a trip to Galapagos Islands for two, do let me know (The islands are well known for bird species as well, just have a look at this link http://www.galapagos-islands-tourguide.com/galapagos-birds.html )
