WOW! Great to see so many replies after the days I had to be out of this section (the demanding real life, you know! ;))!!! Oh, I know perfectly what you mean, Fozzy! :t: And IDing common Butterflies is not so difficult, but to have a compact camera to take decent pics of them helps a lot... it's important to get views of both up- and underside, specially in the Blue and White Butterflies. Have a try during this summer season and you'll find a rewarding activity! o:) And if you have doubts about what are the Butterflies you get, we'll be delighted to help you here! Great trio to start the year, Floyd, good on that Orangetip, I've not spotted a single one yet! :t: WOW, Jos, Camberwell Beauty!!! o:) I've never seen that one, you lucky thing!!! Allen, good on the Large White too!!! :t: Another that I'm failing to find this spring! Machiel, loads of thanks for that information, I had no idea what Butterflies can be seen in Kazakhstan... and to be honest I have no idea what a Compton Tortoiseshell looks like either! ;) Don't you have a pic to share? Would love to see one of those! And after thanking you all for sharing your information, here it goes my update. I've met Gavia in Madrid last week, we had a great time in El Pardo and Rivas, the weather was not brilliant (relatively sunny some moments but very cool) but managed to find a good bunch of Butterflies: - Small Heath (pic 1) - Western Dappled White - Small Copper - Painted Lady - Rosy Grizzled Skipper (pic 2) Hope we got this one right IDed! - Red Admiral - Small White - Provence Hairstreak (pic 3) - Queen-of Spain Fritillary - Scarce Swallowtail - Speckled Wood - Clouded Yellow - Brown Argus (pic 4) - Bath White (pic 5) The Provence Hairstreak was a lifer!!! o:) Loads of thanks for finding it for me, Gavia!!! :t: We had a great time in spite of the weather, it was the first proper Butterfly sesion of the year, with many specimens and loads of snapping!!! :bounce: Even the variety of species was quite good for the cool temperatures in this wet Spring we are having! Cheers everybody!
