I notice that the Kentish plover, reported in the News Services 7-10th May at Dornoch, hasn't been reported since. Am I right in assuming it has probably not been looked for, rather than not been found, as I know observer coverage isn't as great in this region as in, say, Norfolk. I'll be in Scotland in 10 days, and am wondering whether it's worth looking for it, or whether it was just feeding up and passing through. Any thoughts?

There are plenty of regular birders working that area, though coverage is as you say no where near as great as in some places.

Poolewe

Planning a camp trip to Poolewe in late July/early August for two weeks.

What chance of Sea Eagles within reasonable travelling distance?

Looking forward to my visit in 3 weeks, rather the Loch Lomond area or East to Perthshire, 14 mile walk from Dunkeld for a 7 days on the Perthshire moors up to Sarah's Bothy, camping and staying for a couple of nights in the bothy, weather permitting. Carnt wait.

Hi Andrew. Quite a few people have had success at Gruinard Bay. If my geography is correct its just North of Poolewe. Don't forget to scan Gruinard Island as well.

I've seen them off Shieldaig which is c45 mins south of Poolewe.

Good luck.

Thanks Rich. I remember from years ago that there are some large mountains with steep cliffs near there as well.

There are several pairs in the area and could turn up anywhere, flying over. Please do not go looking for nest sites.

They are regularly seen from the hide at Inverewe Gardens, flying across the bay. Also regularly seen from the Slatterdale car park along Loch Maree. The visitor centre at Beinn Eighe should be able to provide you with up to date info.

As well as Gruinard Bay, try the road to Cove along western edge of Loch Ewe.

Uist (North & South)

As part of my annual visit to the Isle of Skye I'm planning a visit to Uist. I've never been before so any advice local people or recent visitors can give would be greatly appreciated. I've got about 8hours from arrival to my return ferry so realistically how much can I get to see, I've read about a couple of seawatching places on South Uist, and I know there is a RSPB reserve on North Uist, plus a seawatching site not far from it.

thanks in advance :t:

I answered almost the same request a few months ago. Check http://www.birdforum.net/showthread.php?t=299022&highlight=North+Uist

Corncrakes are more difficult to see in June with the vegetation higher but the one behind the visitors centre at Balranald is probably easier than most. I am sure you will enjoy the day though and perhaps go a bit longer in future. Regards Roger

Possibly Going To Look For Iccy Warbler At Kingussie This Weekend , Then Onto Look For Scottish /parrot Crossbills After Failing Miserably During Easter Trip. Could Anybody Give Me Any Info On Recent Sightings And Areas To Search

Had my first return to serious birding day today.

Haul was spectacular.

Black, Red and Great Northern Divers, Redstart, Pied Fly Catcher, Buzzard and a pair of Hen Harriers. Morning haul was worthy.
Evening gave me male Cuckoo and Jays off the forest track.

All in all a beautiful day.to be out there in amongst the wild life.

Black Throated Diver and Golden Eagle on and over Loch Shin, Hen Harriers doing well on west coast nice to see too.

Corncrake just outside of Durness hiding in the verge. Long day, well worth it.

Was up in Speyside at the end of last week and a few crossbills were around.
- 2 large billed 'Scottish'/Parrot-types around the Speyside Heather Centre car park on the A95 a few miles SW of Grantown;
- 1 flew over the 'dragonfly pond' at Loch Garten;
- A decent sized flock of c20 at Glen Feshie about 1 mile past the gliding club, just past the bridge over the stream, all seemed to be small billed Common-types.
