Anasimyia lineata

Had a new one for me the other day. Anasimyia lineata is fairly common hoverfly found around still or slow-flowing water; I found this one along the river Nene.

It is fairly small with longitudinal thoracic stripes and a distinctive long, yellow 'nose'.

There were plenty similar to that at Ham Wall (Somerset) yesterday afternoon with well marked wing patterns. I didn't have my camera on me at the time for a pic though.

Looks like a female "Eristalis pertinax" http://www.uknature.co.uk/E.pertinax-info.html
or close relative "Eristalis tenax" http://www.uknature.co.uk/E.tenax-info.html Dave..

Here's one I'm struggling with (if its a hoverfly to start with) Taken at BBOWT Finemere Wood nature reserve on Saturday.. Certainly not come across one before. Pictures not great but hopefully someone will put me out of my misery and perhaps point me in the right direction.. :t:

Hi Geoff,
it's not a hoverfly but a Soldierfly! Probably Stratiomys potamida [given the common name of Banded General fairly recently]. Nice find though, I've been looking for these for a few years now and am yet to connect!!
Cheers,
Steve.

I've got these two as helophilus pendulas (the one with the striped thorax) and myothropa florea.

Hope I'm not making myself look daft and they'll help others in the thread. Someone put me out of my misery if I'm wrong, please.
