I can only express my gratitude for all the contributions Richard has offered to this forum, and offer my condolences to his family, and I feel sad to have read this whole topic today, starting with the first post and some moments later realizing that he won't be here anymore.
I agree with every suggestion here to honor his work and contributions by re-naming the taxonomy subforum.

The Richard Kim Taxonomy Forum gets my vote.

Even a cursory visual sweep down the titles will pick up the Taxonomy part; and most users associate Richard's name with the forum too.

I would definitely not delete 'Nomenclature' from the name of this forum.
If I had to choose, Niels' suggestion is the one that, up to now, sounds best to me as well. A quick search through Richard's posts shows that he would undoubtedly have written it 'honouring', though.
(Wouldn't there be a way to convey the same meaning with a word spelled identically on both sides of the Atlantic...? 'Commemorating'?)

Laurent - I entirely agree, "commemorating" would be preferable on that basis.

I have read this thread since it started, with a feeling I should add something, first some well-deserved thanks and strengthening words to Richard, but then suddenly too late, then some kind of condolences to his Wife Erica and his, their Family, but it´s tricky to write something heart-felt, pin-pointing the proper words, when English isn´t your first language. I can only repeat the words of so many before me: my sincere condolences to Erica and the Family.

However sad, and sad it is, I surely miss Richard's zealousness, helpfulness, politeness and clever, sometimes witty remarks, in all; his grand contribution to this Forum (as well as other Forums and Sub-forums), but before we get blinded by grief: how do we do … if yet another prominent contributor to this Forum suddenly pass away? That would end up in an everlasting change of names, or a name longer than what is functional.

This said in a manner that Richard Klim deserves it like no other!

What does Erica think? Is renaming this Forum a thing Richard would have appreciated?

In my mind I think Richard would have appreciated a klimi. A bird of his own will last longer than any digitized Forum, even the most successful today.

In one way I feel the best way to honour Richard is to keep the tone and the level of our posts here at Birdforum at his high standard. Not easy, but at least we can try …

I agree with Björn. I did not ever meet Richard but I feel like I know the Bird Forum Richard Klim. And he and I are a little uncomfortable about this plan. If I knew how I would insert happy face deal. Also Klim is the name of the act of pouring back milk into its original container. Unseemly! Also it supposedly came from the Swabian version of christian name of Clement. And you all know of my rage against all things associated with the Cornell Clements list. More happy faces. My suggestion would be to mark this forum with the Spoon-Billed Sandpiper bill image as a non-word honor to Richard.

I have to say I think Mark hits the nail on the head. i also never knowingly met Richard in person (despite living just a few tens of miles away) but he & I exchanged private messages often, and I'm fairly sure he would be embarrassed by suggestions that anything should be named after him. Despite numerous attempts by me to persuade him how talented he was, he repeatedly stressed that he was just an interested average birder with lots of time on his hands. If he could, he'd be telling us to stop wasting time eulogising him, and do something more constructive instead like convincing BOU council members that they are idiots for sacking the TSC. Remember that having things named after oneself can be a sign of ... well, let's just say Donald Trump and leave it at that. Richard's contributions speak for themselves.

I always marveled at Richard's efforts and never took his dedication to this forum for granted, but such appreciation does not make the loss of him and his contributions any easier to accept, rather to the contrary.

Yes the BOU Council have mortally wounded themselves over that matter.

Hi everyone
Thank you for all your kind words and appreciation of Richard's input to this forum. Myself and the rest of the family have been very touched and moved reading through your postings.

Pete, thank you for your suggestion for remembering Richard in some way but I think Steve probably was spot on with what he wrote in that Richard wouldn't want any honouring and the rest! The best you could all do is to carry on with your input to this forum and keep it going.

Unfortunately taxonomy and nomenclature is all a bit beyond me. We had many wonderful trips around the world and many memories that will remain for a long time to come.

Erica and family.

Here they are:

Be polite! You are speaking for Richard. Their emails are available from their universities or organizations. Do not use sport terms like "own goal" from the looks of it these people never got picked for teams. One frightening note after Martin Collinson's name it says co-opted? All we are asking is a return to 1956, that BOU have a Taxonomy Sub-Committee, please.

Please accept my belated condolences too. I never met or corresponded directly with Richard but I certainly very much appreciated the effort he put into the forum posts himself that led so many others to contribute to making it such an interesting and educational place. He is certainly much missed already.

Totally gutted to have just come across this news, too late to thank Richard for being the amazing him. A massive loss, even to the many of us who never met him in person. Wishing all the best to Erica and family for the times ahead.

So so sad about this news Erica, Jenny and Justin, my sincerest condolences.

None of us will be here forever I know, it will be small comfort that Richard is so highly thought of, and helped so many of us understand parts of our mutually-loved interest and hobby. Its lovely to hear that he gained as much pleasure on here as many of us do, despite him having to help so many of us.

God bless Richard. You will always be remembered here.
