You mean you fell in the ditch trying to get closer to said Dragonfly, nice find by ME so it seems, not many around these parts

Moorlands Macro: Close up and personal....with bug
Spent a few hours at Uttoxeter quarry, mainly around the first pool looking for Odonata species. There were a few about including this nice mature male Aeshna cyanea (southern hawker), and a couple of Sympetrum striolatum (common darter). I also saw Aeshna grandis (brown hawker) but it wouldn't land close enough for a picture.

There were also some very small Skipper butterflies about (see picture) I have never seen them this small here before. Lot's of other butterflies about too, including: Large and small whites, Small copper, Common blue, Peacock, Small tortoiseshell, Comma and Speckled wood.

Chris and myself spotted this today at an undisclosed site in Staffordshire. We are fairly sure what it is but we just need some confirmation.

I'm pretty sure it's an immature Common Darter but my dragonfly ID is a little rusty so can't be 100% certain, from what i remember the yellow on the legs rules out Ruddy Darter that should be black.

Shaggy Parasol Chris, (Macrolepiota rhacodes) Very nice to eat as well. Seen them at Weston park, can grow very big indeed with a cap of over 1 foot in diameter.

Almost impossible to get close to (I didn't want to disturb the small tortoiseshell on the adjacent dock leaf) but my first ever slender groundhopper - wished I'd got the eye fully in focus! River Trent, along with single common darter, and green common grasshopper.
