That is a shame. Their policy is penny wise and pound foolish. Shipping costs, including insurance are much more costly doing it their way. I had excellent service from Nikon. I originally owned a 10x32 EDG I. Its covering on the the objective tubes started "bubbling" and coming loose. I contacted Nikon about it and followed their instructions about sending it in for work. They advised me that they were going to send me a new 10x32 EDG II rather than repair my EDGI which had been discontinued. They had to order a new one from Japan and I received it in less than 2 weeks. I got a brand new binocular from them so I am very happy about it. A couple of years earlier I lost one of the "Horned Eye Cups" that came with my EDG I and I inquired about purchasing a new one from Nikon. They sent me 2 of them for free! Go figure! Bob
