I think the MHG will still be better than the new M7. I guess that the update to the M7 is a great thing, especially the rubber armor.

I tested the MHG again and think that I will keep it. It’s an awesome glass and i can easily afford it. It’s more my head telling me that i shouldn’t spend the money when I already got a glass that’s fine.
Do you guys think I should wait some time for an updated version of the MHG? Sadly Nikon won’t tell us anything about their plans.

Nikon has got a great product, at a great price point too. I really wouldn't be waiting. Get it. Enjoy it ...... for many years.

My gut feel is that they won't touch it. If they did, it would shoot up to at least an SLC /HT type price point. That would also mean no upgraded EDG. I'm not certain that binoculars (sport optics) are Nikon's main focus (lol - I can't help myself ! 😄). They have enough to do with getting the Z mount camera lens range fleshed out, and introducing new halo level bodies.

I'm not even sure that Nikon intends on ever upgrading the EDG to compete with the Swaro NL anyway ...... people have died waiting for things in the optics /imaging world - like a Canon 7D Mark III, or a Nikon 600mm f5.6 lens, etc.

It depends. I would imagine that nikon could reduce glare and improve the lens caps for example. If this would be the case in the next months, i would be willing to wait for it. But as you say (as far as i understand) the glass is already great and there is no need to wait for a better option.

I really tend to overthink it - thats the same with lenses for my camera and everything else

As you guys said i would be happy with both the viper and the monarch hg. In the end the hg is the better glass and thats why i will keep it. I'm looking forward to use and enjoy the glass in the fields and cant wait for the weekend. I was birding nearly every weekend in the last three months and its a pleasure to enjoy the birds with 8x magnification! My better half can now choose between the diamondback hd 8x32 or the viper 8x42 and i'm sure she will alsways choose the 8x32 due to its weight - she could be an idol for me. Doesnt matter if its the sharpest glass, just enjoy it.

New here, still doing a lot of research and investigation. My journey is: buy diamondbacks, return them get Vipers. I tried every other pair I can at Sheels and Cabela's and realized that there are many binoculars that are much more expensive than the $500 vipers. But every time I weigh the improvement/cost ratio, I end up happy with my decision to purchase the 10x42 vipers. I am in the market for 8x32 as companion pair. If the Vipers came in 8x32 I would buy them in a minute. I just wanted to weigh in to give some props to the vipers, I think they are a bit underestimated.

The Vipers are definitely great for the price. I really like the whole package, it’s so rugged, the caps work perfect (not like the caps on the monarch HG) and having the lifetime no questions asked warranty makes me feel like nothing can go wrong.
The Monarch HG don’t feel that rugged but definitely got better micro contrast and edge to edge sharpness. I still own both in 8x42 and still think I could be happy with the viper. If there would be a viper in 8x32 it would definitely be my glass.

In my search for an 8x32 I landed on the diamondback for now. I couldn’t get a good fit with the MHG or M7. For less than 200, I’d have to spend 3-5x that to get significantly better optical performance and I’m still not sure I’d be able to beat the ergonomics and build quality.

It’s absolutely fine. I tried to convince my better half to like the viper but she always prefers the Diamondback 8x32 because it’s so small and lightweight, even if the viper got the better optics. To be honest, since I got the MHG I can’t look though the Diamondback without thinking about the MHG

Thank you! Looking at the ranking at allbinos the viper seems to be a decent glass. As he said, it’s always a matter of personal comfort. I can definitely recommend the viper.

A vote for the Meopta MeoStar B1 Plus 8-x10/42 binos. I have had the 8x42 for 18 months now and just purchased the 12x50's and they are equally impressive. For low light viewing, it's the larger exit pupil of the 8's that win, but for sunrise to sunset, the 12's are everything I wanted them to be without a $2K+ price tag! You won't be disappointed.
