How good was the MM2? I have looked through the 3 and the 4 in 50mm but never a 2. There is one on eBay £135 with 2 eyepieces a zoom and a 25x.

Good value or will I just regret not getting a newer model?

Hi Mono,
I have two MM2s, both with 13x-40x or near eyepieces.
I think I paid £75 and maybe less for the other.
They are O.K. up to about 30x.
I can check if you want.
They have different eyepiece mounting threads, maybe one internal one external.

I use them hand held balanced on a window ledge at about 25x for quick views.

I think that £135 may be a bit high unless immaculate.
Offer £100 or £110.
I think both mine were boxed, possibly with cases.

They collapse into a small package.

I also have earlier Mighty Midgets in 50mm and maybe 60mm.
Basically when the prices were low I bought them.
I made a temporary binocular from two 50mm ones.

I also use a Kowa 20x50 straight through for quick views.

And a Mirador 30x75 drawtube which is very good for £60.

I found several low priced Opticron eyepieces also.

However, in the last year and a half I have bought nothing at all.

Regards,
B.

P.S.
Mine are non ED, I think.
I don't know if there is an ED version, which should be good for £135 or less.

P.P.S.
One says Mighty Midget V2
The eyepiece is marked MM2
The eyepiece is 15x to 40x.
It doesn't say ED.
52mm.
It is small collapsed.

The other one may be version 1?

The retail price of this non-ED* MM2 when it was discontinued was £149 body only. Eyepieces were £45 and £99 each. So total of just over £290. At the end of its life there were body, eyepiece and case kits selling at £299 which included a Velbon Sherpa 200 tripod so the scope would have been effectively £200.

Given that it is likely out of warranty and based on the above, I'd say the £90 start price is probably about right as a final price and £135 is over-priced.

HTH

Cheers, Pete
