Wow, what a day. Juvenile Black Tern showing extremely well over the workings, resting in view on the islands occasionally. Dave also had a juvenile Arctic Tern in the morning and there was three Green Sandpipers on the bike pool. Rich H noted a Yellow Wagtail over.

An excellent couple of visits yesterday; the Black Tern had departed but there were a number of Green Sandpipers to keep Wader enthuasts happy. The highlight though was and adult and juvenile Hobby hawking dragonflies over the workings. A couple of enthusiatic locals from the far side of the meadow turned up and it was great to hear them comment on how things have changed for the positive.

Have you guys thought about starting an annual bird report for Tice's?

It just crossed my mind the other day as something that could be really useful. I'd love to write it, it's just the sort of project I'd enjoy putting together!

Obviously, I'd need all the data from Kevin come the end of the year.

It won't be any sort of professional publication, with proper printing etc (unless anyone has knowledge of stuff like that), but we could sell them for a couple of quid each, with the money going towards future habitat management tasks, running events etc.

What do you think?

Sorry if this is off-topic, but it is the only means of contact I have...
Just wanted to post to thank a Richard that I bumped into today at Tice's. He sent me off to Ash Ranges, where I was delighted to find a life Dartford Warbler or two.

Thanks a lot!!!

I thought I had a 1st year Caspian Gull yesterday but Rich and I talked ourselves out of it. Details are.

Pale FY bird
Palish Head (distinct contrast to body). Not as pale as I would expect in a Caspo.
Long bill
Odd shaped head
Larger than LBB Gull and jizz different (in water did not sit like a LBB Gull)
Smaller than a GBB Gull
Not a Herring Gull

I am not happy to put a name to this Gull - Jizz very much a Caspian but would expect a first year bird at this time of the year in Surrey.

One that got away.

Sean looks good to me. You show the water levels at 69.40 at 10th July before islands apear . If you need any of my file s let me know . Rich H.

Cheers Rich.

I had to make a compromise regarding the workings, cause the levels are forever changing. It doesn't really matter that the outline of the workings is correct, it's just showing it's location really.

Doesn't the little wood by the garage entrance have a name, isn't it named after someone?

As you say out line correct and location. The first bit of wood is called Lise s Wood and further down Jubilee Wood. Path s demarcate.

What do you guys think of my first draft of the map for the bird report?

Any comments on improving it welcome.

Sean - impressed. Looks great. There are a couple of paths running East to West through the shrubs but suspect that these are too minor.

Rich H ,

you said Lise's Wood - do you mean Lisa's Wood?

Rich Sgt
