We haven't had many siskins this year. A few showed up a couple of weeks back but have moved on. We have lots of Purple Finches and A. Goldfinches though.
Global warming seems to be having an effect. We have reports of cardinals, orioles, Indigo Buntings in higher than normal numbers. Some of them are definitely nesting here.

We just moved to our new home last August, so have been working this year to get some birds in our yard. No trees to start with, but we planted a few last fall. The first to come were the doves -- both mourning and ruddy doves -- and the sparrows. They eat breakfast and supper with us regularly. In the spring we had many meadow larks, but don't see them much now. We have mockingbirds that love to sit on the top of our trees. We saw one Painted Bunting -- but only once. We have a pair of cardinals now that eat from our feeder. And we have quite a few hummingbirds coming to our multiple feeders. So it's starting to feel like home now with our birds.

Yesterday I found a robin building a nest in one of our out buildings. Unfortunately it was a building that is going to be closed and locked while we are away. The good side was that the nest was only half built and no eggs. I evicted the bird and I'm sure that she will find a better site. I will have to check all the buildings daily until she settles somewhere.
I was in another building, the workshop and in she flew. She then started to beat against a window and I had catch her by hand and release her outside. Obviously I must close all doors ASAP once I'm inside buildings.

Hi from Ontario.... where we are finally getting some sun and heat, at least for a day or so!
Just out watching one of my favourite birds... we have a pair of house wrens who have moved in to one of our birdhouses... Such a mighty song for a little guy! They just beat a pair of blacked capped chicadees into this house... the chickadees seemed a bit disgruntled, however, gave in.
On the other side of the house, I have a pair of chickadees who managed to get in before the wrens arrived. I hope the wrens don't damage their eggs!
Lots of pine siskins this April into early May... in by 50's at a time. We had to keep fillin up the nyger feeders every two days or so.. We also have a pair of mourning dove and a pair of cardinals... and quite a few goldfinches... and one white throated... a few woodpeckers, both downy and hairy.. Love it when they bring their babies to the feeders...

We will be leaving shortly for a trip so I've taken down several feeders since nobody will be filling them. I've filled a couple that should last for a week or so then the birds are on their own.

*bumps topic*

The regulars at the feeders.. chickadees, nuthatches, bluejays & doves. There is one white breasted nuthatch too, he/she visiting every spring/fall for a few weeks then disappears. Starlings was at the feeders too for a few days, then they left.

Most all the gorgeous leaves have fallen. I soak up their color every year!!
Did see a first time bird - ovenbird- pasing thru on migration. Very tame - I could almost touch it!! Just the usual beggars hanging on now - abudance of squirrels this year. I heard the nut supply is low - more mouths to feed this winter!!$$
